Psychology Adjunct Instructor

Hellenic College is seeking one or two adjunct (part-time) instructors for Fall 2013 to teach General Psychology, an introductory course in the core curriculum, and Research Methodology, a required course for seniors in the Human Development Program. Qualified candidates may also have the opportunity to offer a three-credit psychology elective for juniors and seniors.

Adjunct Professors with a PhD are remunerated $3,000 per course; adjunct instructors with a master’s degree are remunerated $2,500 per course.

Summary: 

Hellenic College is seeking to fill a full-time, tenure-track position as the Director of the Management and Leadership program, beginning August 1, 2013.  Hellenic College is a fully accredited, small Orthodox Christian four-year liberal arts and professional studies college located in Brookline, Massachusetts. Hellenic College offers undergraduate programs in the humanities, classics, human development, and in management and leadership. The Management and Leadership major was developed in 2004 in response to a recognized need in business for leaders and managers with strong ethical and moral character, and to advance the mission of Hellenic College to promote and nurture vocations for service to society and the Church. The curriculum in management and leadership focuses on developing skilled, culturally sensitive, and ethical business leaders. The Director will report directly to the Dean of Hellenic College and is responsible for leadership, curriculum development, student learning assessment, adjunct faculty recruitment and development, teaching, student advisement, and will work with appropriate administrative offices in planning course offerings and student enrollment. Given the small size and the intimate culture of the College, the successful candidate will have the intellect, integrity and administrative acumen to work in partnership with the entire faculty and administrative staff of Hellenic College around such things as implementing the assessment plan for the General Education curriculum, and contributing to the administration, formulation, and execution of College policies and regulations. The Director may also collaborate with the Dean of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology concerning curriculum development and teaching courses in parish leadership. The successful candidate will also make exemplary efforts in teaching, professional development, and service.

Founded in 1938, Hellenic College Holy Cross is the intellectual, educational, and spiritual center of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, stimulating, developing, and sustaining ordained and lay vocations for service to Church and society.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director will:

  • collaborate with the dean, faculty, and administrators of the institution in its overall academic, administrative, and strategic endeavors.
  • recruit, develop and retain strong adjunct faculty.
  • assign faculty workloads and conduct annual observations and personal interviews with all faculty in the department.
  • advise and guide program faculty members in all areas of their development as faculty.
  • plan and initiate changes in the curriculum.
  • work with the Director of the Library to enrich the collection, giving attention to future growth of the program.
  • work with the Dean and appropriate administrative officers in planning enrichment programs, such as lecture series and colloquia for majors and other interested students, faculty, and members of the community.
  • guide the faculty in the program in assessment and accreditation efforts.
  • hold regular program faculty meetings.
  • represent the Management and Leadership program before committees and other bodies.
  • contribute to the formulation and execution of College policies and regulations.
  • revise copy for catalogs and other bulletins.
  • make recommendations concerning the admission of students.
  • advise and mentor students.
  • work with the registrar to ensure that a balanced and appropriate offering of courses is made each term.
  • teach three courses per semester and oversee student internships.
  • collaborate with the Dean of the School of Theology on parish leadership curriculum and teaching.
  • pursue scholarly interests in her or his discipline.

 

Qualifications:

Required qualifications include a doctorate or an MBA; the position is open with respect to rank, but the preferred candidate will have a record sufficient for appointment at the rank of associate professor, and possess appropriate teaching and business experience, professional connections, and applied contributions to the field. Preferred qualifications include demonstrated excellence in administrative endeavors, successful experience collaborating with and supervising professionals, and the ability to interact effectively with key stakeholders. Regardless of their religious affiliation, all faculty members are expected to respect and support the Hellenic College Holy Cross mission. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
