On Thursday, November 29, Hellenic College Holy Cross hosted “Echoes of Asia Minor,” a symposium commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Catastrophe of
The presentations were very rich in content, and varied in both scope and methodology. They celebrated the minority Christian communities of the late Ottoman period and their connection to the broader region, the majority culture, and the even the soil itself. Through the sponsorship of the New York Life Insurance Company for the Study of Hellenism in Asia Minor and Pontus at Hellenic College, we brought to campus Prof. Tom Papadimitriou (HC '88, SOT '92), the Constantine and Georgia Endowed Professor of Greek History and Executive Director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Hellenic Studies at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey for a key note address. He was joined by three other scholars presenting papers, Dr. Patricia Bouteneff, and our own colleagues, Dr. Stamatia Dova, and Mr. Panayiotis League.
Thanks to all who worked toward the success of the symposium, and especially to
Dr. Aristotle Michopoulos for assuming the responsibility for this event from beginning to end.
