Very Rev. Dr. Joachim Cotsonis Participates in Dumbarton Oaks Workshop as Iconographic Consultant

The Very Rev. Dr. Joachim Cotsonis, Director of the Archbishop Iakovos Library and Learning Resource Center, and Byzantine art historian, participated in the 3rd International Sigillographic Workshop for the Digital Cataloguing of Byzantine Lead Seals (SigiDoc Workshop) held at Dumbarton Oaks, Harvard Center for Byzantine Studies, Washington, DC, from 8-11 July 2011.

Fr. Cotsonis served as one of the two iconographic consultants for this workshop devoted to the international standards for the cataloguing of images and objects. He also participated in the 2nd International Sigidoc Workshop held at Dumbarton Oaks in December of 2010. Dumbarton Oaks, which possesses 17,000 Byzantine lead seals, is preparing an electronic database for this material. Fr. Cotsonis' research and publication specialty is devoted to the religious images found on Byzantine lead seals.
