President's Award to Dr. Macrakis

Hellenic College Interim Dean Dr. Demetrios Katos, Holy Cross Dean Rev. Dr. Thomas FitzGerald, Archbishop Demetrios, Dr. Lily Macrakis, HCHC President Rev. Nicholas Triantafilou.

Dr. Lily Macrakis was honored with the President's Award at a gathering attended by one hundred and fifty guests, including Archbihsop Demetrios, HCHC President Rev. Nicholas Triantafilou, Trustees and Deans and faculties of Hellenic College and Holy Cross. Dr. Macrakis was accompanied by her son, two daughters and a grand-daughter. Also attending were faculty from other arera colleges and universities, including several former colleagues from Regis College where Dr. Macrakis taught for many years and was chair of the history department. Many speakers warmly lauded Dr. Machrakis about her contributions to Hellenic College and academia, along with relating entertaining anecdotes from her life here and abroad.

Dr. Macrakis served as Academic Dean of Hellenic College, and as Professor of Greek and European History, for eight years, mostly pro bono. She remains as an adjunct professor of history and special advisor to the President. The President's Award is given at the discretion of the President to those individuals who have rendered exceptional service to Hellenic College and/or Holy Cross.
